How to Unpack Efficiently After Your Move
A room-by-room order for unpacking that gets your home working again in days, not weeks.
Unpacking feels endless when boxes are opened at random. A simple order makes the first week much easier.
Day one: the essentials
- Beds and bedding, so everyone sleeps well.
- Bathroom basics: towels, toiletries and medicines.
- A small kitchen kit: kettle, a few plates, cups and cutlery.
Days two and three: the kitchen
The kitchen takes longest. Unpack what you use daily first, and keep rarely used items boxed until the cupboards are organised.
Then: wardrobes and living areas
Hang clothes straight from wardrobe boxes. Set up the living room around the TV and seating, then add decor last.
Keep it moving
- Unpack one room at a time and flatten empty boxes as you go.
- Use the labels: every carton should say which room it belongs to.
- Book unpacking help if you are short on time; movers can unpack and take the empty cartons away.
